Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Architectural Assurance, the successful candidate will provide subject matter expertise in building envelope systems and sustainable building performance, leading technical reviews, risk identification, and compliance assurance across transit facilities projects. Experience with pedestrian flow analysis within transit environments is considered an asset. This role ensures that station and facility assets align with the corporate mandate and business objectives, supporting safe and reliable asset operations.

Requirements

  • Completion of a university degree in Building Sciences, Architecture, Engineering, or a related discipline, or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience in design and construction of building envelope systems such as curtainwall, glazing, metal cladding, concrete, floors and roofing, building science principles, and long-term asset performance considerations.
  • Working knowledge of sustainability principles including embodied carbon fundamentals in building materials, energy performance concepts and climate resilience considerations.
  • A valid Ontario Class G driver’s license in good standing to attend sites, including construction sites across the GTHA.
  • Strong technical drawings and specifications review capability, ability to identify risks in design and construction, and facilitates resolution discussions across multi-disciplines (e.g. Architecture, Mechanical & Electrical, Structural, Civil)
  • Interpersonal and oral/written/presentation skills to articulate complex topics with clarity and simplicity to technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels and with internal and external Metrolinx stakeholders.
  • Experience with project management, balancing a range of activities, that requires responsiveness, flexibility, organization and decisive expert leadership.

Nice To Haves

  • OAA (Ontario Association of Architect) or P.Eng (Professional Engineer) registration or eligible to be registered is an asset. LEED AP is an asset.
  • Experience with pedestrian movement and circulation principles, with ability to interpret pedestrian modelling outputs (e.g. flow diagrams, LOS metrics) is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise in building envelope systems and sustainable building performance, supporting the Facilities Architecture team and leading assigned projects to ensure station and facility assets are safe and fit for purpose.
  • Act as subject matter expert, assuring projects are in accordance with applicable Metrolinx standards and industry practices.
  • Conduct comprehensive and integrated design review of documents, drawings and specifications for envelope system integrity (walls, roofs, glazing, interfaces), thermal control continuity, and interface conditions between building envelope and structural systems.
  • Apply a sustainability lens to design submissions, including embodied carbon, high performance building strategies, and ecological and site integration requirements.
  • Responsible for providing recommendations as a result of risk-based and technical decision making to support agency governance process, particularly in relation to standards and the advancement of projects through key milestones.
  • Manages technical issues and risks, facilitates effective conflict resolution, and communicates effectively with internal and external Metrolinx stakeholders.
  • Support the Manager and Senior Manager in strategic initiatives including standardized process, guidelines and methodologies.
  • Support the development and updating of design standards and acceptance criteria for station and facility assets.
