WSP is currently initiating a search for a Plumbing Engineer to join our Property & Buildings – Building Systems group in Dallas, TX. This role will support the planning, design, and delivery of complex healthcare facilities, including hospitals, outpatient clinics, medical office buildings, and specialized treatment spaces. This position offers the opportunity to work on high‑quality, high‑profile healthcare projects alongside a collaborative, multidisciplinary team of engineers, architects, and consultants. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in plumbing systems design and a growing interest or experience in healthcare-specific systems, including medical gas and critical utility infrastructure. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Plumbing Engineering, or a closely related discipline
  • 3–5 years of relevant post‑graduate experience in plumbing or building systems design
  • Working knowledge of plumbing design principles, codes, and standards (IPC, UPC, NFPA, local AHJ requirements)
  • Experience supporting projects within the healthcare, laboratory, or institutional building sectors
  • Proficiency with industry‑standard design tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit)
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team‑oriented consulting environment

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to healthcare plumbing and medical gas systems
  • Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) certification or progress toward professional licensure
  • Familiarity with healthcare regulations and guidelines (FGI, ASHRAE healthcare applications, NFPA 99)
  • Experience working on projects from design through construction

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design and documentation of plumbing systems for healthcare facilities, including domestic water, sanitary, storm, specialty waste, and medical gas systems
  • Perform engineering calculations, system sizing, and equipment selection under the guidance of senior engineers
  • Develop plumbing layouts, schematics, and construction documents in coordination with mechanical, electrical, fire protection, architectural, and structural disciplines
  • Support healthcare‑specific design considerations such as infection control, redundancy, code compliance, and reliability of critical systems
  • Participate in quality control reviews to ensure design accuracy, constructability, and adherence to WSP standards and healthcare codes
  • Assist with construction administration activities, including submittal reviews, RFIs, and site visits
  • Prepare technical documentation, calculations, and reports to support project deliverables
  • Collaborate with project teams to meet client schedules, budgets, and performance expectations
