About The Position

The Building Technician is responsible for supporting daily package center and building logistics operations, including the collection, processing, and distribution of USPS mail and related materials across campus package centers and building mailrooms. This role ensures incoming and outgoing mail is handled accurately, securely, and within established service timelines. The Building Technician will also provide basic building support services, assist with operational logistics, and coordinate with supervisors or specialized technicians when facility-related issues arise. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced service environment while delivering excellent customer service. The ideal candidate is detail oriented, well organized, technically capable, and able to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED required OR equivalent work experience in lieu of.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Requires regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.
  • Must have ability to read and interpret documents such as but not limited to safety data sheets (SDS), operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals, etc.
  • Must be able to understand and to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Able to meet the physical requirements and essential functions of the role, with or without accommodation, for example, frequent standing and walking, occasional reaching with hands and arms, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds unassisted.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Requires the ability to move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
  • Requires extensive use of hands (ability to reach over, bend and extend hands)
  • Reach above and below shoulder height, constant walking, standing in one place for long periods of time, bending, stooping, lifting, kneeling, etc.
  • Work in varying temperature environments (internal and external parts of the building).

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency with shipping logistics software, Microsoft Office Suite including, Access, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint & Excel.
  • Experience in shipping, receiving, logistics, or inventory management, ideally in a corporate or office setting.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills; problem solving ability.
  • Basic knowledge of standard janitorial duties, cleaning techniques, products and equipment preferred.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot common maintenance issues and coordinate specialized services when necessary.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment, maintain a positive attitude at all times, and be able to assist the team/department to complete goals.
  • Ability to operate hand tools appropriate to the application.

Responsibilities

  • Collect USPS mail from the local post office and designated housing service centers in accordance with scheduled routes and procedures.
  • Sort and process undergraduate and graduate mail accurately and efficiently following established mail handling and distribution guidelines.
  • Deliver processed mail to appropriate package centers and building mailrooms, ensuring secure and timely handoff.
  • Process outbound mail collected from campus buildings, preparing items for USPS pickup and ensuring compliance with postal regulations.
  • Support mail forwarding services for students following move-out, ensuring accurate routing, documentation, and timely processing.
  • Ensure all USPS mail is processed and delivered within 24 hours of receipt, meeting service-level expectations.
  • Inspect incoming mail for accuracy and condition, escalating damaged, misrouted, or non-compliant items in accordance with policy.
  • Maintain accurate records of mail receipts, deliveries, forwarding activity, and outbound processing using designated systems or logs.
  • Coordinate with package center staff and supervisors to resolve mail-related issues and support daily operational priorities.
  • Assist with basic building operational support tasks as needed, including minor adjustments, simple repairs, or equipment checks.
  • Report maintenance concerns or facility issues to the appropriate supervisor or service provider.
  • Support logistics operations including movement of materials, supplies, and equipment across campus locations.
  • Maintain organization, cleanliness, and safety of mail processing areas, workspaces, vehicles, and equipment.
  • Follow all USPS, institutional, and company policies related to mail handling, safety, privacy, and security.
