About The Position

Building supervisors are responsible for the overall supervision of the Student Recreation and Wellness Center (SRWC), student employees, and programs while they are on duty. The building supervisor is responsible for enforcing all rules and regulations established by the Student Recreation and Wellness Center professional staff for employees and patrons. Any problems, questions, or complaints from participants or personnel should be directed to the building supervisor.

Requirements

  • Washburn University or Washburn Tech student with SRWC staff experience
  • Human relations and interpersonal communication skills necessary to effectively express ideas and policies to patrons and personnel
  • Ability to assert authority to peers, faculty, staff, and other members of the Washburn community
  • Availability to work early morning, night and/or weekend hours
  • Conflict resolution skills
  • Decision making skills
  • Reliable
  • Ability to accept and give constructive criticism

Nice To Haves

  • Current First Aid, CPR and AED certification (will train)

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the day-to-day operations of the SRWC according to official operating procedures
  • Ensure the building opens and closes as scheduled
  • Verify that part-time employees are present and in their assigned areas when their shifts begin. If an employee is not present, the building supervisor will report this absence to the SRWC professional staff via the appropriate documentation and attempt to fill vacant shifts as soon as possible
  • Ensure that all areas are completing assigned tasks and goals. Delegating tasks were appropriate
  • Follow SRWC emergency procedures while managing emergency situations
  • Be familiar with all aspects of the SRWC resulting in the efficient operation of the building and programs
  • Manage all questions, problems, and complaints received from participants and personnel
  • Tour the building regularly (approximately every 30 minutes) in search of malfunctions, safety hazards, improper operations, etc.
  • Take responsibility for all keys pertaining to the SRWC
  • Ensure all policies, rules, and regulations are being followed by participants and personnel
  • Make sure personnel have the necessary equipment needed to perform their duties
  • Complete appropriate SRWC forms, providing as much detail as possible; indicating any injuries, incidents, malfunctions or abnormalities in the operation of the SRWC
  • Attend all appropriate staff meetings
  • Manage all guest pass and membership transactions and verify that all forms and money is accounted for on each shift
  • Give facility tours
  • Perform other duties as required by the SRWC professional staff
