About The Position

As a Substitute Teacher at our public school in an assigned building Monday through Friday, you will play a crucial role in providing educational support to students in the absence of their regular teachers. Requirements

  • Must hold a current Kansas Certified Teacher License, OR Standard Substitute License OR Emergency Substitute Teacher License.
  • Must be available Monday through Friday, Elementary 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or Secondary 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Applicants must meet the Kansas State Department of Education certification requirements.
  • Knowledge and skills in proper English usage, grammar, vocabulary, spelling and punctuation, and basic math; methodologies, techniques and practices used to address the educational and emotional needs of regular program and special education students.
  • Must be able to follow oral and written directions and have the ability to establish effective working relationships with staff and students.
  • Ability to maintain effective classroom management strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Implement lesson plans left by the classroom teacher while ensuring the integrity of academic time in a manner which motivates students to learn and participate.
  • Create and maintain a climate of respect and fairness for all students; ability to demonstrate fair and ethical judgment.
  • Maintain discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff in accordance with school and district policies.
  • Apply appropriate consequences for inappropriate student behaviors; ability to display problem solving cooperative negotiating skills and conflict resolution strategies.
  • Maintain and respect confidentiality of student, school personnel, and parent information.
  • Ensure adequate supervision to assure health, welfare, and safety of all students.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by building administrator(s) in accordance with school/district policies and/or practices.
  • Assignments may be on a day-to-day basis or long term.
  • Substitute teachers in a long-term position may be required to prepare lesson plans and do other related work as required.
