About The Position

Building Substitute (Classroom Support & Intervention Specialist) PRN/On Call School Overview St. Louis Voices Academy of Media Arts is an innovative public charter school serving students and families in St. Louis City. We emphasize: Whole-child development Academic excellence Social-emotional learning Student voice and real-world inquiry Position Overview The Building Substitute (Classroom Support & Intervention Specialist) is a on call substitute role that provides consistent, high-quality support across classrooms. This role blends the responsibilities of a: Building Substitute Academic Interventionist Behavior Interventionist Special Education Paraprofessional This role is more aligned with a typical substitute teacher, providing classroom coverage in the absence of the daily classroom educator.

Requirements

  • Current Missouri Substitute Certification Certificate
  • Ability to supervise and support students effectively
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Flexibility and ability to work across multiple classrooms

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 60 college credit hours
  • Experience in education, youth development, or behavior support
  • Experience working with students with diverse learning needs

Responsibilities

  • Classroom Coverage & Instructional Support
  • Serve as a building substitute, providing coverage across classrooms as needed
  • Maintain continuity of instruction during teacher absences
  • Support lesson implementation and student engagement
  • Assist with small-group and individual instruction
  • Academic Intervention
  • Provide targeted support to students needing additional academic assistance
  • Reinforce learning of key concepts and skills
  • Support differentiated instruction and independent work
  • Monitor and communicate student progress to teachers and leadership
  • Behavior Intervention
  • Support students in developing positive behavior habits and self-regulation skills
  • Assist students in reflecting on behavior and making improved choices
  • De-escalate situations and maintain a safe learning environment
  • Collaborate with staff on behavior plans and interventions
  • Special Education Support
  • Support students with IEPs and 504 plans in both academic and behavioral settings
  • Provide one-on-one or small group assistance to students with specialized needs
  • Assist in modifying or adapting instruction as directed
  • Support students with social, emotional, and functional skill development
  • Student Supervision & School Operations
  • Supervise students during: Transitions Lunch and recess Specials and enrichment
  • Assist with classroom setup, materials, and logistics
  • Support a safe, structured, and positive school environment
