About The Position
Building Substitute (Classroom Support & Intervention Specialist) School Overview St. Louis Voices Academy of Media Arts is an innovative public charter school serving students and families in St. Louis City. The school will grow to serve grades K–5, grounded in a mission to leverage media arts and storytelling to equip students with the agency to excel academically and shape their futures. We emphasize: Whole-child development Academic excellence Social-emotional learning Student voice and real-world inquiry Position Overview The Building Substitute (Classroom Support & Intervention Specialist) is a full-time, on-site role that provides consistent, high-quality support across classrooms. This role blends the responsibilities of a: Building Substitute Academic Interventionist Behavior Interventionist Special Education Paraprofessional This is not a traditional substitute role. This is a stable, full-time position designed for individuals who want to build relationships with students, support learning across classrooms, and play a critical role in both academic and behavioral success.
Requirements
- Current Missouri Substitute Certification Certificate
- Ability to supervise and support students effectively
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Flexibility and ability to work across multiple classrooms
Nice To Haves
- Minimum 60 college credit hours
- Experience in education, youth development, or behavior support
- Experience working with students with diverse learning needs
Responsibilities
- Classroom Coverage & Instructional Support: Serve as a building substitute, providing coverage across classrooms as needed
- Classroom Coverage & Instructional Support: Maintain continuity of instruction during teacher absences
- Classroom Coverage & Instructional Support: Support lesson implementation and student engagement
- Classroom Coverage & Instructional Support: Assist with small-group and individual instruction
- Academic Intervention: Provide targeted support to students needing additional academic assistance
- Academic Intervention: Reinforce learning of key concepts and skills
- Academic Intervention: Support differentiated instruction and independent work
- Academic Intervention: Monitor and communicate student progress to teachers and leadership
- Behavior Intervention: Support students in developing positive behavior habits and self-regulation skills
- Behavior Intervention: Assist students in reflecting on behavior and making improved choices
- Behavior Intervention: De-escalate situations and maintain a safe learning environment
- Behavior Intervention: Collaborate with staff on behavior plans and interventions
- Special Education Support: Support students with IEPs and 504 plans in both academic and behavioral settings
- Special Education Support: Provide one-on-one or small group assistance to students with specialized needs
- Special Education Support: Assist in modifying or adapting instruction as directed
- Special Education Support: Support students with social, emotional, and functional skill development
- Student Supervision & School Operations: Supervise students during transitions, lunch and recess, specials and enrichment
- Student Supervision & School Operations: Assist with classroom setup, materials, and logistics
- Student Supervision & School Operations: Support a safe, structured, and positive school environment
