About The Position

Employees in this class ensure safety by performing door-watch and security screening work in monitoring the entrance to the Law Enforcement Center. Employees also perform some duties incidental to repairs, cleaning and related tasks. Employees are selected by the Facilities Director and work under moderate to close supervision of the Building Services Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of building security policies.
  • Knowledge of the operation of building security equipment. Knowledge in the care of building security equipment.
  • Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions. Ability to work under moderate supervision.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions, including lifting, pulling, bending, climbing and ability to work at heights.
  • Graduation from high school or GED.
  • Good interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Good work record/history.
  • Basic computer and keyboard skills.
  • Successfully pass criminal background check and have valid driver's license and good driving record. Pass all training provided by the Sheriff's Department regarding building security.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer related experience in building security, cleaning or maintenance, or law enforcement. Excellent customer services skills.

Responsibilities

  • Stands at designated entrance to the Law Enforcement Center to monitor persons entering or leaving. Ensures that persons entering or leaving the building pass through designated security detection devices. Operates security detection devices such as x-ray scanner for metal detection or other equipment.
  • Stops persons causing security devices to activate and requests compliance with security procedures, such as emptying pockets of metal objects.
  • Examines personal effects of persons to ensure compliance with building security policy.
  • In the event of non compliance with building security, notifies appropriate staff to handle compliance problems. Does not enforce security. Does not arrest nor physically restrain persons.
  • Provides information and gives clear and concise directions and information to the public. Gives directions to the public in regard to County Departments and the Courts.
  • Monitors all County parking lots for safety, security, and parking violations. This is done on foot except during inclement weather when a County vehicle is used. Issues parking tickets and empties the meter money in County parking lots.
  • Picks up and delivers mail to other work sites. Drives a County vehicle. Keeps the entrance way to the building and screening equipment clean.
  • Maintains sidewalks in winter by removing snow and maintains lawn in the summer by mowing grass, pruning trees and shrubs and watering. This is done downtown and at other County owned properties.
  • Performs minor maintenance and custodial tasks, on occasion. Delivers and removes confidential material bins.
  • Lifts, moves and carries boxes and other items.
  • In this public service position, employee is required to be courteous, cooperative and respectful at all times, with the public and clients. Also establishes and maintains a courteous, cooperative and respectful working relationship with other employees, supervisors and public officials.
  • Displays cooperativeness and is accommodating to requests of County officials and requests for maintenance assistance.
  • Maintains a good attendance record. Employee is expected to report to work when scheduled, with minimum use of sick leave, to build up sick leave balance for income protection for unexpected illness.
  • Performs other incidental janitorial duties as required or directed.
