About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Director of Operations and/or school-based administrator, the Building Operator, cleans and maintains offices, halls, classrooms and similar areas in a school building and performs related work as required or assigned. Maintain custodial standards by following district-trained cleaning procedures and supervision of assigned staff. Results will be a safe, clean and efficient building environment. All employees of SISD are expected to act with integrity, support organizational goals, communicate in a clear and respectful manner, championing the needs of our students and drive continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or GED
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English
  • 5 yrs. job related experience (minimum 3 years as supervisor of staff)
  • Ability to understand verbal and written instructions in English
  • Knowledge of routine custodial practices and methods
  • Knowledge of equipment, chemicals, and materials, used in cleaning processes
  • Knowledge of minor repair techniques and building and grounds maintenance
  • Ability to manage personnel
  • Effective planning and organizational skills

Responsibilities

  • Supervise staff in daily cleaning procedures and projects.
  • Perform building and equipment inspections.
  • Correct quality problems.
  • Open/close building and security gates as required.
  • Coordinate set-ups for activities and rentals.
  • Supply ordering and inventory control.
  • Submit all paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Train and retrain staff in cleaning and floor care procedures.
  • Evaluate assigned staff.
  • Monitor hallways and restrooms after each class changes.
  • Raise and lower cafeteria tables.
  • Oversee cafeteria set-up and clean up.
  • Responsible for keeping equipment clean and operable.
  • Dust vents, ledges, shelves and horizontal surfaces.
  • Wet wipe walls, tables, desks, chalkboards/trays and glass.
  • Disinfect restroom sinks, urinals, toilets, fixtures, partitions, showers and floors.
  • Polish all chrome.
  • Disinfect public phones and water fountains.
  • Move furniture and perform project cleaning.
  • Empty pencil sharpeners.
  • Empty trash.
  • Remove carpet spots.
  • Other general custodial duties as assigned by the supervisor including, but not limited to, moving furniture and equipment.
  • Responding to emergencies or crisis situations in the District.
