About The Position

This position is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the assigned buildings and providing support for all area-related events. This includes instructing and working with all employees while performing all building operation functions and all event setups that are scheduled in the buildings. This position is responsible for the training of employees on proper safety protocols and use of equipment and chemicals established for the needs of the area. Responsibilities include recruiting, hiring, training, mentoring, time management, accountability, safety, cleanliness, customer service and following directions from upper management, and other reasonable responsibilities that may be assigned.

Requirements

  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
  • One year of professional experience in building operations or a similar industry (or current BYU Building Operations Manager)
  • Physical Exam and Lift Test Required
  • Ability to perform tasks such as lifting tables, chairs, riser stairs, climbing ladders for cleaning, changing light bulbs, etc. for 6–8 hours per day
  • Ability to participate in snow removal as needed
  • Ability to operate equipment such as vacuums, running floor machines, buffers, genie lift, and loaders as required
  • Wear closed-toe shoes and gloves (recommended for safety, required for chemical exposure)
  • Wear appropriate cold-weather gear (recommended for snow removal)
  • Wear eye and hearing protection (recommended for equipment operation, required for chemical exposure)
  • Maintain the standards of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as defined by the CES Honor Code and Dress and Grooming Standards, both on and off campus, 24 hours a day
  • For members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, must hold and be worthy to hold a current temple recommend
  • All Staff positions require a resume

  • 3 years building care experience
  • 1 year supervisory experience

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the assigned buildings
  • Provide support for all area-related events
  • Instruct and work with all employees while performing all building operation functions and all event setups that are scheduled in the buildings
  • Train employees on proper safety protocols and use of equipment and chemicals established for the needs of the area
  • Recruit, hire, train, mentor employees
  • Manage time, accountability, safety, cleanliness, customer service
  • Follow directions from upper management
  • Provide leadership, training, and job oversight to all employees
  • Manage the cleanliness of assigned buildings by working with ¾-time, part-time employees, and student employees
  • Determine needs and submit work orders for the buildings such as painting, electrical, heating, air conditioning, plumbing etc. and follow up to ensure that issues are addressed in a timely manner
  • Keep in contact with patrons of the buildings to determine customer satisfaction and take care of any concerns
  • Guide the development of student and non-student employees by working alongside them to teach, train, and mentor
  • Communicate, encourage, and hold accountable all student and non-student employees regarding their job responsibilities
  • Attend seminars, workshops and conferences when appropriate to improve job and leadership skills
  • Engage in personal study of administrative and skill development materials
  • Perform tasks such as lifting tables, chairs, riser stairs, climbing ladders for cleaning, changing light bulbs, etc. for 6–8 hours per day
  • Participate in snow removal as needed
  • Operate equipment such as vacuums, running floor machines, buffers, genie lift, and loaders as required
