About The Position

The City of Sterling Heights is seeking a full-time Building Official who brings strong leadership, organization, and technical expertise to ensure the safety, integrity, and compliance of all building activities within the City! Position Summary Under the direction of the City Development Director, the Building Official directs the activities of the Building Services division of the City Development Department, including coordination of field and office work in the enforcement of construction regulations. Work involves reviewing building plans, site plans, construction documents, inspection reports and development proposals for compliance with applicable City codes and ordinances and issuing related permits.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Public or Business Administration, City Planning, Architecture or a related field with a minimum of five (5) years progressive experience in construction management or a related field in a similar size community or;
High School Diploma/GED Equivalent with a minimum of eight (8) years progressive experience in a related field in a similar size community.
Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience.
Must hold a Building Official, Plan Examiner & Inspector Registration as designated by the State of Michigan.
