Requirements

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, Automation, or a related field is required or 15+ hand-on experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience in building automation systems, with a minimum of 3 years in a supervisory or management role, preferably in a biotech or pharmaceutical environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of BMS (building management systems)technology, including HVAC control, energy management, and system integration is essential.
  • Proven experience in managing BMS projects, including planning, execution, and financial oversight is necessary.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose system issues and develop effective solutions are required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information to a non-technical audience, are needed.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management skills, with a track record of fostering a culture of continuous improvement, are essential.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience and knowledge with applying Six Sigma to R&D
  • Experience working in a LEAN environment.
  • Experience with Automated Logic WebCTRL platform or similar (e.g. Honeywell, Siemens, Johnson Controls, Schneider Electric, Tridium Niagara).
  • Familiarity with protocols and standards such as BACnet, MSTP, Modbus.

Responsibilities

  • BMS Operations Leadership: Oversee the operation, maintenance, and optimization of the Automated Logic WebCTRL BMS and integrated systems to deliver high availability, minimal downtime, and efficient energy usage.
  • Vendor Partnership Management: Lead relationships with BMS solution providers, ensuring adherence to KPIs, governance models, and service quality that supports strategic performance goals.
  • Project Delivery: Scope and deliver upgrades, retrofits, and new installations on time, within scope, and on budget, progressing from immediate operational gains to long-term capability building.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all BMS activities meet AAALAC, AstraZeneca SOPs, and industry best practices, safeguarding critical environments and audit readiness.
  • Performance Optimization: Identify and execute technology upgrades, process improvements, and energy-saving initiatives that reduce cost, boost reliability, and elevate user experience.
  • Systems Integration: Collaborate with IT and key stakeholders to integrate BMS with security, lighting, and HVAC, creating a unified smart building approach that unlocks data and decision-making.
  • Monitoring and Reporting: Develop and implement a robust monitoring strategy, providing regular performance reports and actionable recommendations that guide continuous improvement.
  • Alarming Strategy and Governance: Manage and create alarming, rules, and procedures within the BMS to ensure timely, accurate responses and clear operational ownership.
  • Training and Guidance: Provide technical guidance and training to facilities staff, building troubleshooting confidence and best-practice consistency across teams.
  • Critical Alarming and Reporting: Own site and science-critical alarming and reporting, ensuring rapid escalation, transparent communication, and resilient protection of essential spaces.
