About The Position

This full-time position with Marathon County’s Facilities & Capital Management Department is responsible for performing skilled grounds maintenance duties at county facilities with a focus on North Central Health Care and Lake View Campus. Work includes grounds maintenance, snow removal, and occasional custodial and building maintenance duties. The standard work shift is Monday-Friday, 7:00am to 3:30pm with participation in a rotating on-call and early shift (3:30am to 12:00pm) rotation during the winter months (Nov-Apr).

Requirements

  • High school graduation or equivalent and 3 years related grounds maintenance experience preferred; OR any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets County standards.
  • Ability to operate small engine machinery and equipment associated with grounds maintenance.
  • Because the job duties can involve access to secure areas and confidential and/or criminal and prosecutorial information, the selected candidate(s) must possess a good reputation and background which will withstand pre-appointment investigation, that will include finger-print check.
  • Candidates must be free of any felony convictions to be considered for this position.
  • Knowledge of the tools, methods, and materials used for performing landscaping, mowing, trimming and repair on grounds maintenance.
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques involved with snow removal.
  • Knowledge of proper safety precautions, practices and procedures when using power equipment, grass mowers, snow removal equipment, etc.
  • Skills to perform preventative maintenance or minor repairs on grounds equipment.
  • Skills in refinishing and woodworking such as wooden benches and picnic tables.
  • Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to perform routine operations without close supervision.
  • Ability to recognize equipment in need of maintenance.
  • Ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Ability to operate trucks and equipment effectively, safely, and efficiently.
  • Ability to assist with set-up for events throughout the year.
  • Ability and willingness to actively participate in problem solving to develop and implement solutions to identified work issues.
  • Ability to contribute to a positive work culture that fosters excellent customer service and teamwork

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance or minor repairs on grounds equipment.
  • Mowing, trimming, maintaining and improving campus lawns, including mulching, pruning, and raking.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation and seasonal early shift rotation.
  • Snow removal to include plowing/brooming, brining, salting roads, parking lots, and sidewalks.
  • Maintain and wash grounds vehicles and equipment.
  • Operate small hand tools and other equipment in a safe manner to accomplish tasks.
  • Refinish and repair outdoor furniture such as benches and picnic tables.
  • Assist with set-up for events throughout the year.
  • Empty trash cans.
  • Patch potholes.
  • Raise, lower, and replace flags.
  • Develop solutions to work issues that add value for our customers.
  • Operate machinery and equipment associated with grounds maintenance.
  • Participate in establishing professional development goals that are supportive of County goals.
  • Perform related work as required.

Benefits

  • Starting hourly rate of pay is $24.13 + Marathon County Benefits.
