About The Position

The role of this position is to provide a safe, functional, clean, efficient and attractive living and learning environment. Building Maintenance Engineers perform work in a variety of trades in university facilities and is part of a zone maintenance team of trade persons responsible for a defined set of buildings on campus. Responsibilities include work involving: plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC and painting. This position will be involved in corrective and preventive maintenance and minor alteration work and may oversee temporary labor and/or other trades persons or contractors as required. Building Maintenance Engineers work independently and cooperatively with other Facility Management and University departments along with contract trade personnel to maintain building systems, prevent facility problems when possible and respond to customer requests or emergencies. They also occasionally function as a team leader of small project teams. This position may work independently or as part of a team and requires general supervision.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2 years of relevant trade experience.
  • Ability to use smartphones and possess basic computer knowledge for job functions such as but not limited to reading and responding to email and text messages.
  • Ability to use a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Possess schedule flexibility to respond to emergencies and unforeseen job tasks.
  • Willingness to perform duties other than those typically associated with core trade responsibilities as the needs of the University dictate.
  • Ability to work as part of a diverse, team-oriented organization.
  • Ability to actively support team members and customers.
  • Ability to collaborate and cooperate with all employees.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States and must pass a background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical trade School certification.
  • 2 - 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Basic troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Ability to work on ladders and scaffolding, and at heights of 40 feet or more, and lift 50lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections and perform preventative maintenance on building infrastructure, equipment, and systems (HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Carpentry) to proactively identify and mitigate operational and functional issues.
  • Work with trade personnel to troubleshoot and/or repair building infrastructure, equipment, or systems that may be considered minor, specialized, or complex in nature. Research if necessary and request materials and parts for repairs.
  • Record, document and report findings and actions of all maintenance and repair work performed, including time spent, materials used, and the nature of the task.
  • Attend and participate in department and university meetings.
  • Attend technical or required safety trainings to stay current, advance knowledge and skills, and remain informed on technical changes and advancements of compliance standards.
  • Escort and provide access, oversight, and general guidance to contractors.
  • Review blueprints for troubleshooting, repairs, or construction related purposes.
  • Work with Supervisor or construction managers to provide comments and feedback associated to current or future construction projects.
