About The Position

We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly skilled Building Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in structural upkeep and the operation of a building's various systems, such as HVAC, plumbing, and electrical. They perform both reactive repairs and proactive, preventative maintenance to ensure the building is safe, efficient, and compliant with codes. Their duties include conducting regular inspections, responding to maintenance requests, and sometimes managing external contractors for larger projects.

Requirements

  • Technical expertise: Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems is crucial, sometimes with specialized knowledge for a particular facility, such as a manufacturing plant.
  • Problem-solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills are essential for diagnosing and resolving complex issues.
  • Attention to detail: An ability to notice small details during inspections can prevent major problems down the line.
  • Organization: They must be organized to manage multiple tasks, schedules, and maintenance records.
  • Communication: The role requires clear communication to interact with building occupants, management, and outside contractors.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with CAD software like SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and Revit and the ability to read and understand architectural/engineering drawings and schematics.
  • Experience with other collaborative tools like Confluence, Jira, Autodesk Construction Cloud, etc.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment, or facility layouts.
  • Knowledge of systems engineer concepts such as requirements management and risk management.
  • Experience working with DoD and other government organizations.

Responsibilities

  • System maintenance and repair: They operate, inspect, and repair all types of building systems, including heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Preventative maintenance: They implement and execute programs to identify and fix potential problems before they cause system failures.
  • Inspections and compliance: They regularly inspect life safety systems like fire extinguishers and emergency lighting to ensure they are up to code and in working order.
  • Problem-solving: They are skilled at diagnosing problems, finding cost-effective solutions, and responding to emergency situations in a timely manner.
  • Project management: They may oversee renovation or construction projects, coordinate with vendors and contractors, and help with budget estimates.
  • Record keeping: They maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, equipment performance, and inspection logs.
