About The Position

Job Summary: Performs a variety of routine and semiskilled tasks involving general maintenance of City facilities, equipment, and grounds.

Requirements

  • Must possess computer skills.
  • Operates power-driven machinery such as a buffer, drill to complete maintenance work
  • Uses equipment and tools such as hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, drills, saws, trenchers, augers, and other tools commonly used to maintain facilities and associated equipment
  • Tennessee Bureau of Investigations Clearance
  • Must possess a valid Driver's License.

Nice To Haves

  • Three to six months related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One to three months related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Sweeps, mops, scrubs, and vacuums hallways, common areas, breakrooms; restrooms; stairs and office space; sweep garage; and restock supplies for users
  • Set up rooms
  • Check facilities for hazards
  • Clean mirrors and windows; blinds, ledges, hard surfaces
  • Pick up and deliver supplies, order supplies
  • Empties trash and garbage containers
  • Maintains building, performing minor and routine painting, plumbing, electrical wiring, and other related maintenance activities
  • Replaces air conditioner filters
  • Notifies supervisor concerning need for major repairs or additions to lighting, heating, and ventilating equipment
  • Cleans snow and debris from sidewalk
  • Mows lawn, trims shrubbery, and cultivates flowers
  • Makes routine plumbing repairs (i.e., repairing leaks, unplugging toilets and drains, etc.); replacing light bulbs and fluorescent lights, and making electrical related repairs (i.e., replacing electrical receptacles, etc.)
  • Performs routine carpentry work (i.e., minor paint jobs, installing doors, door stops, cabinet doors, tile, adjustable shelving
  • Performs preventive maintenance on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning HVAC) systems
  • Sets up and removes folding tables and chairs to assist at community events
  • Display courteous, civil, and respectful behavior to all persons and shall make every effort to meet the needs of citizens requesting assistance
  • Refrain from the use of abusive, indecent or profane language or gestures in the workplace, in the performance of duties or in the presence of a member of the public
  • Perform duties in a manner that is fair, impartial, and without prejudice toward any person or group
  • Refrain from arguing unnecessarily with any person or otherwise showing a lack of self-control, ridicule, or defame any employee, elected official or any other person or any agency of the City of Columbia
  • Display responsibility for attendance and promptness and report to the work area on time
  • Performs other related duties as required.
