About The Position

Under general supervision, the Building Inspector I conducts field inspections on primarily residential construction projects to ensure compliance with all adopted codes, standards, and local ordinances. This position is considered an entry-level position. Under general supervision, the Building Inspector II conducts field inspections on primarily residential construction projects to ensure compliance with all adopted codes, standards, and local ordinances. This position conducts inspections independently on moderately complex projects. Building Inspector I: $36.86- $49.77 Building Inspector II: $38.53- $52.01 The anticipated starting salary for Building Inspector I is $36.86 and for a Building Inspector II is $38.53.

Requirements

  • Building Inspector I High School Diploma/GED
  • Building Inspector II High School Diploma/GED
  • Building Inspector I Experience 4 years Field experience in electrical construction.
  • 3 years Field work experience in residential construction.
  • Building Inspector II Experience 4 years of field experience in electrical construction
  • 5 years of field experience in residential construction
  • 3 years of field experience in residential inspections
  • Maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license for the duration of employment.
  • Colorado Journeyman or Master Electrician license
  • ICC B1 Residential Building Inspector
  • ICC P1 Residential Plumbing Inspector
  • ICC M1 Residential Mechanical Inspector
  • Ability to obtain required certifications within 12 months of hire date.
  • Colorado Journeyman or Master Electrician license within 1 Year ( Upon hire required )
  • ICC BI Residential Building Inspector within 1 Year ( Required )
  • Driving is essential in this position. Candidate must have a valid Driver’s License and Liability Insurance ( Upon hire required)
  • Candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) evaluation and if hired, will be subject to continuous monthly MVR monitoring and random drug screens throughout employment. ( Upon hire required)
  • Pre-employment substance screening is required for this position.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening.
  • Employment is contingent upon successfully passing the screening in accordance with Weld County policy.
  • This position is non-exempt from the minimum wage and overtime requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is therefore eligible for overtime pay.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred Education Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree
  • 1 year Practical field experience in building inspection.
  • 5 years field experience in residential building inspection.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Bilingual in Spanish preferred, but not required.
  • 5 years of field experience in residential building inspection
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree from an accredited community college or university

Responsibilities

  • Building Inspections - 80%
  • Weld County Building Codes and referenced standards
  • Basic application of Residential Building Codes
  • Basic residential construction methods and materials
  • Regulations regarding jobsite safety and use of PPE
  • County Policies regarding the operation and maintenance of county vehicles.
  • Computers, office equipment, phones, and associated software
  • Weld County Code of Conduct
  • Engaging with customers, contractors, and coworkers
  • Communicating effectively, verbally and in writing
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
  • Reading residential construction plans and specifications
  • Reading and interpreting residential building codes and ordinances
  • Performing inspections on residential construction sites under guidance/supervision
  • Posting notices and documenting posted jobsites
  • Administration - 10%
  • Attending staff meetings, events, and training classes
  • Tracking CEU’s needed to maintain licenses and certifications
  • Maintaining a valid Colorado electrical license
  • Maintaining all required ICC certifications
  • Document projects that are not in compliance with building codes
  • Other Duties Assigned - 10%
  • Setting and tracking annual goals for personal and professional growth
  • Assisting plans examiners with plan revisions based on field inspections
  • Other work assignments to assist coworkers and the building official
