The Role We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and talented Senior Project Engineer to join our Boston Facades and Building Envelope team . In this role, you will lead small- to medium-sized projects and act as the key point of contact for larger, complex projects. You'll collaborate with team leaders and Thornton Tomasetti's CORE team to develop and implement research and development initiatives onto projects. Your work will include building envelope analysis, system research, design detailing, and coordination with multidisciplinary teams. The ideal candidate is creative, detail-oriented, professional, and passionate about pushing the boundaries of façade design and engineering.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Architecture; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in façade and building envelope design, including project management and team leadership on complex projects.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) and/or SE license or Registered Architect.
  • Deep technical expertise in building envelope systems (glazing, cladding, roofing, waterproofing) and experience with large-scale, high-profile projects.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and build rapport with clients and colleagues.
  • Proficiency in Bluebeam, Revit, AutoCAD and computational design tools (Rhino/Grosshopper, Python, Fusion/SolidWorks); experience with other software like SketchUp, THERM, WUFI is a plus.
  • Proven ability to innovate, solve problems, and resolve conflicts while mentoring team members.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Lead projects from concept through construction, managing teams, schedules, and budgets while maintaining strong client relationships.
  • Analyze building envelope performance using specialized software (structural loading/deflections, thermal analysis, condensation risk, geometry) and provide engineering solutions.
  • Develop computational design tools to support project deliverables and strategic initiatives.
  • Prepare and review detailed 2D and 3D design solutions for client presentations, coordination, and construction documentation.
  • Support construction administration, including RFIs, submittal management, site inspections, and field reporting.
  • Coordinate closely with internal and external stakeholders—including architects, engineers, conservators, testing labs, owners/representatives, contractors, and our offices across the US and Canada.
  • Contribute to team leadership by facilitating communication, mentoring staff, and fostering professional relationships internally and externally.
