About The Position

The Building Engineer is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing building operating systems to ensure safe, efficient, and continuous operations. This role may be assigned to a single building with limited size and scope and serves as the primary on-site engineering resource. The Building Engineer must be available for after-hours emergency response and have reliable transportation.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 5 years of building operations or engineering experience
  • CFC certification (high-pressure discipline) required
  • Required licenses or certifications as applicable to the role
  • Strong knowledge of building mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively
  • Strong troubleshooting and decision-making skills
  • Proficient computer and email skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong attention to safety and compliance
  • Ability to travel if required to perform the essential job functions
  • Ability to work under stress and meet deadlines
  • Ability to operate related equipment to perform the essential job functions
  • Ability to read and interpret a document if required to perform the essential job functions
  • Ability to lift/move/carry approximately 50 pounds if required to perform the essential job functions.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, climbing, and working in mechanical spaces
  • Ability to complete required safety training related to job duties

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting on building systems, including mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, life safety, fire protection, and security systems
  • Maintain working knowledge of all building systems and respond to abnormal operating conditions
  • Conduct scheduled preventative maintenance, including lubrication, adjustments, cleaning, replacement of consumable parts (filters, indicator lights, etc.), and system testing
  • Maintain and service equipment such as air handling units (rooftop and built-up), recirculating air systems, water pumping systems, cooling plants, and plumbing components
  • Perform general building maintenance as needed
  • Respond to tenant service requests related to safety, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and environmental needs via work orders and direct communication
  • Prepare and maintain maintenance logs, records, and documentation using preventative maintenance and work order systems
  • Coordinate and oversee outside contractors, including obtaining required approvals and maintaining work order documentation
  • Perform work in a manner that ensures tenant safety and uninterrupted building operations
  • Follow all site-specific operating procedures and safety protocols
  • Assist with snow and ice removal activities, including coordination of outside vendors
  • Maintain organized building and maintenance files
  • Perform other duties as assigned
