The Building Automation Manager provides leadership, vision, and technical prowess for a healthcare system of ten hospitals. The position’s primary focus is to monitor, operate, manage, and improve each hospital’s existing BAS and act as the primary subject matter expert in automated controls. The focus is to examine and understand each hospital’s existing BAS and be able to understand and operate each system both on-site and remotely to provide support to on-site operators. Understanding the systems at each hospital includes in-depth research and field investigations to identify unique challenges and system vulnerabilities and devise mitigation strategies to include capital improvement scoping and other project management initiatives. The Building Automation Manager also plays a key role in crises and event management during outages, service disruptions, or facility-related events. The role is required to investigate such events using the BAS to critically arrive at conclusions of root causes of failures or disruptions. The manager should be able to devise strategies to assist in identifying data requirements needed when evaluating such events to allow cause determination and implement strategy to retrieve. The Building Automation Manager will be responsible for identifying operational problems or deficiencies with how major building equipment is controlled and identify, devise, implement, and monitor controls solutions to improve performance and reliability. The selected candidate must have extensive experience in Building Automation Systems to include writing programming for the operation of major building equipment. Also, experience as a controls technician is required to include physical installation of new work as well as service on existing systems of all ages both electronic and pneumatic. The Building Automation Manager will be required to integrate engineering principles and technologies of mechanical (HVAC) systems, electrical systems, electronics, and computer hardware and software in the installation, operation inspection, preventative maintenance, and repair of systems operating hospital mechanical equipment. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Health’s philosophy, policies, procedures, and standards.
