About The Position

The Budget Specialist is responsible for advanced budget analysis, financial reporting, and compliance oversight across multiple federal, state, and private funding streams. This position plays a key role in ensuring financial integrity, supporting strategic decision-making, and maintaining compliance with complex funding requirements while enabling the sustainability and growth of critical crisis services nationwide.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of nonprofit accounting standards, OMB Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200), and cost allocation methodologies.
  • Familiarity with financial systems such as NetSuite, Adaptive Planning, or similar tools
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong knowledge of financial analysis and problem-solving
  • Clear and effective communication
  • Ability to translate financial data for non-financial audiences
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and trauma-informed practices
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Public Administration, related field or relevant experience listed below.
  • 4+ years of experience in budgeting, financial analysis, or grants financial management.
  • Demonstrated experience managing government-funded programs, preferably within nonprofit, public health, or behavioral health settings.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial reporting systems.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation, review, and ongoing management of annual and multi-year budgets for 988 programs and initiatives.
  • Conduct detailed variance analysis, forecasting, and trend analysis to inform program and executive leadership.
  • Support strategic financial planning related to program expansion, staffing models, and service demand.
  • Prepare comprehensive financial reports for internal stakeholders, executive leadership, and external funders.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and private funding requirements, including cost allowability, allocation, and reporting standards.
  • Support internal and external audits, fiscal monitoring visits, and compliance reviews related to 988 funding.
  • Partner closely with grants management, contracts, and program teams to monitor funding utilization and performance.
  • Develop and review budget narratives, amendments, and financial components of grant proposals and renewals.
  • Track spending deadlines, match requirements, and restricted funds to ensure timely and compliant use of resources.
  • Serve as a subject matter resource for budget and financial questions related to 988 operations.
  • Provide financial guidance to program managers and leadership to support informed decision-making.
  • Participate in cross-functional planning efforts related to funding strategy, sustainability, and operational scaling.
  • Maintain accurate and timely financial data within accounting and budgeting systems.
  • Support the development and refinement of financial controls, policies, and procedures.
  • Create tools, dashboards, or templates to enhance budget visibility and reporting efficiency.
  • Other duties as assigned.
