About The Position

A mission-driven nonprofit organization is seeking a Budget & Grant Manager to play a central role in financial planning, grant stewardship, and organizational sustainability. This position leads the development and management of the organization’s operating budget, oversees grant financial compliance, and delivers clear financial insights that support strategic decision-making. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, this role partners cross-functionally with finance, programs, development, and contracts teams to strengthen financial systems, ensure responsible resource management, and support long-term growth. Location This is a remote position open to candidates based in Atlanta, Georgia or California.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Public Administration, or a related field preferred
  • 3–5+ years of experience in nonprofit finance, budgeting, or grant management
  • Strong understanding of nonprofit GAAP and fund accounting principles
  • Demonstrated experience managing multi-program budgets and restricted funding
  • Experience with federal, state, and private grant compliance requirements
  • Proficiency with accounting systems (e.g., Sage Intacct) and advanced Excel skills
  • Ability to build clear financial dashboards and translate data for non-financial audiences
  • Experience supporting audits and working with external auditors
  • Highly organized, analytical, and detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities

Responsibilities

  • Organizational Budgeting & Forecasting
  • Lead the annual budgeting process and support multi-year financial planning
  • Consolidate departmental budgets and align financial plans with strategic priorities
  • Monitor performance against budget, perform variance analysis, and recommend course corrections
  • Collaborate with program leaders to promote strong financial stewardship
  • Grant Financial Management & Compliance
  • Maintain a comprehensive grants calendar, including reporting deadlines and renewal cycles
  • Develop grant budgets for federal, state, and private funders in accordance with allowable cost guidelines
  • Oversee restricted funding compliance, including cost allocation, time tracking, and indirect cost recovery
  • Prepare accurate, timely financial reports for funders, leadership, and the board
  • Financial Analysis & Reporting
  • Create and maintain financial dashboards to support program and executive decision-making
  • Conduct forecasting and scenario modeling for new initiatives and funding changes
  • Support annual audit preparation by providing schedules, documentation, and grant-related reporting
  • Systems, Controls & Capacity Building
  • Improve and maintain budgeting and grant tracking systems
  • Strengthen internal controls, policies, and financial procedures
  • Train staff on budget management and grant compliance to build organization-wide financial literacy
