About The Position

The Budget and Compliance Accountant is responsible for supporting the organization's financial health and operational effectiveness through accurate budgeting, financial reporting, grant compliance, and analysis. This position plays a key role in developing, monitoring, and maintaining organizational and program budgets; preparing financial documentation for donor and grant-funded activities; ensuring compliance with federal, state, and contractual requirements; and supporting annual audit activities. The Budget and Compliance Accountant collaborates closely with program staff, leadership, and external partners to provide clear financial insights that inform organizational planning and decision-making. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate financial information to both finance and non-finance professionals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive accounting or budget management experience, preferably in a nonprofit, government, or grant-funded environment.
  • Knowledge of GAAP, grant accounting, and federal compliance requirements (Uniform Guidance).
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, formulas, data analysis).
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare accurate financial reports and maintain organized documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate financial concepts clearly to diverse audiences, including program staff and leadership.
  • Experience working with federal, state, or foundation grants is highly preferred.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Must have or able to obtain a State of Arizona Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance Card within 90 days
  • Dependable transportation, valid driver’s license, and automobile insurance coverage in compliance with Center requirements

Nice To Haves

  • CPA, CMA, or progress toward certification.
  • Experience with nonprofit fund accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks with classes).
  • Experience managing or monitoring sub-grants or partner financial relationships.
  • Knowledge of federal reporting portals (e.g., PMS, SAM.gov, G5, etc.).
  • Background in multi-year budget planning or financial modeling.
  • Experience supporting organizational or program audits.
  • Familiarity with the nonprofit sector and understanding of programmatic funding structures.
