About The Position

The UAF Office of Finance and Accounting (OFA) is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Budget Analyst. The successful candidate will have advanced knowledge of accounting theory and generally accepted accounting principles and knowledge of rules and regulations associated with fiscal activities and compliance requirements. This position requires strong analytical, research and problem solving skills, along with good written and oral communication, self-directing skills, and ability to organize and prioritize a diversified workload. The ability to foster effective working relationships and build consensus from staff in other departments is vital to this position, along with the ability to synthesize information into comprehensive reports and to formulate unique and creative solutions for problems, using your expert knowledge of data analysis support tools including Excel. The successful candidate will be a detail-oriented, analytical professional who enjoys working within complex financial and administrative systems. Four years of progressively responsible professional fiscal experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience, will provide a strong background for this position. Success in this position means being both a reliable producer of high-quality fiscal reports and a forward-thinking collaborator who identifies evolving reporting needs. You will excel if you are comfortable developing, refining, and publishing daily, weekly and bi-weekly reports, while also creating new reporting tools that support executive leadership and unit-level decision-making. A day in the life of a Budget Analyst consists of starting your day by diving into UAF’s financial systems, reviewing data, validating entries, and ensuring the fiscal reports you produce are accurate, timely, and ready to support decision-makers across campus. As you move through the day, you’ll develop and refine a variety of fiscal reports, while collaborating with colleagues, answering questions, and providing technical guidance to financial managers who rely on your expertise to navigate complex processes. Whether you’re granting or troubleshooting system access, offering training, or stepping in to support a unit during a busy period, your service-minded approach helps strengthen financial operations across the institution. Finally, you will thrive if you enjoy supporting others—providing training, technical guidance, and expert-level assistance to financial managers across campus. If you are motivated by accuracy, teamwork, process improvement, and strengthening financial operations across a large and dynamic institution, this role will be an excellent fit.
