About The Position

MDW Associates is seeking a Budget Analyst to provide sound financial stewardship, expert analysis, and innovative approaches to our National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) client in Huntsville, Alabama ( requires full onsite presence ). Essential job functions will include but may not be limited to: Serve as an analyst to systematically integrate business, cost estimating and financial management processes aiding to ensure the efficient stewardship of public funds Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills (as demonstrated through past performance in preparing financial reports and documents) Ability to work in a variety of work scenarios with Principal Investigators, management, and in large science and resource team(s), including virtual interactions Works independently when necessary, with minimal guidance Trustworthy and maintains confidentiality Provide strategic budget analysis investigating financial data to provide decision makers with crucial information, ideas, solutions and options for the effective planning and execution of the budget Supports Principal Investigators and Branch Management by monitoring and tracking budgets including preparing phasing plans, PPBE submissions, and cost analyses and makes recommendations for changes and process improvements Reviews, analyzes and presents budget and workforce status including detailed variance explanations with impacts and solutions with suggestions for presentation, analysis, and process improvements Maintains project budgets, conducts cost analysis, and develops phasing plans for a few major research projects utilizing data analytics tools, as applicable Understands the proposal rate structure and process, makes suggested improvements, and uses it to prepare cost proposals for Principal Investigators Interact with NASA Headquarters resource personnel to understand processes, resolve discrepancies, and provide required financial information

Requirements

  • 4+ years of specialized experience in budget analysis or related field
  • Must possess strong analytical skills to accurately analyze financial data using advanced tools and processes
  • Proficient MS Office Applications including advanced knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint
  • A knowledge & understanding of automated financial systems and budgetary report generation
  • Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Power BI to develop interactive dashboards and visual reports, integrate multiple data sources, and support data-driven decision-making
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills (as demonstrated through past performance in preparing financial reports and documents)
  • Ability to work in a variety of work scenarios with Principal Investigators, management, and in large science and resource team(s), including virtual interactions
  • Works independently when necessary, with minimal guidance

  • Systems Applications and Products (SAP) and Business Objects (BOBJ) or other accounting systems
  • Experience developing cost proposals for Principal Investigators
  • Federal Government Financial Processes
  • Power BI experience

Responsibilities
