About The Position

The Brushing Machine Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining brushing machines that use sandpaper or abrasive rollers to produce a soft, smooth, and suede-like surface on knitted fabrics. This role requires precision, attention to detail, and an understanding of fabric finishing techniques to achieve consistent texture and appearance while minimizing waste and defects.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1–2 years of experience operating brushing, emerizing, or other fabric finishing machines preferred.
  • Knowledge of textile properties (knit fabrics) beneficial.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Ability to identify and correct surface texture inconsistencies.
  • Basic recordkeeping and communication skills.
  • Team-oriented, safety-conscious attitude.
  • Ability to stand and operate equipment for long periods.
  • Frequent bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs), and manual handling of fabric rolls and A-frames.
  • Exposure to noise and heat.
  • Good vision and tactile sensitivity for assessing fabric surface quality.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate brushing machines according to production specifications and fabric types.
  • Install, inspect, and replace sandpaper rolls or abrasive sleeves as needed.
  • Adjust key parameters — such as roller speed, fabric tension, pressure, and direction of run- to achieve the desired effect.
  • Load and unload fabric rolls safely, ensuring correct alignment and smooth feeding through the machine.
  • Continuously monitor fabric surface and machine operation throughout production.
  • Inspect fabrics for consistent surface softness, nap direction, and color uniformity.
  • Identify and correct issues such as over-brushing, streaking, or surface damage.
  • Record production and quality data, including machine settings, lot numbers, and inspection results.
  • Communicate with the quality control and finishing teams to ensure that all fabrics meet customer and product standards.
  • Perform routine cleaning and basic maintenance of brushing machines to prevent buildup on abrasive rollers.
  • Monitor the wear of sandpaper and replace it promptly to maintain quality output.
  • Report mechanical or electrical issues to maintenance personnel.
  • Keep work area clean, organized, and compliant with safety and 5S standards.
  • Follow all plant safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves, eye protection, and hearing protection.
