About The Position

Proctors Collaborative is the largest cultural institution in the Capital Region with performing arts venues in Albany, Schenectady and Saratoga, and education, civic engagement and economic development initiatives throughout the region. The Collaborative School of the Arts is the education wing of the organization, offering a robust series of training programs, classes and engagement programs in each venue, in schools and throughout the community. The Collaborative School of the Arts at Proctors is seeking an acting/vocal instructor for the one-week 2 session summer program. Artist must be trained and have experience in professional musical theater, either on Broadway or Broadway tours. Experience mentoring and teaching drama to 12 – 14 years old in a high energy, creative, fun environment that fosters self-confidence in each child, is required. Artist must be an ambassador and have a dedication to arts education.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in performing arts and working with youth required
  • Understanding of how to produce a showcase for middle school youth.
  • Passion for Collaborative School of the Arts at Proctors mission and youth development.
  • Prior work experience with diverse youth populations of varying racial and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Strong leader and team-builder
  • Ability to resolve conflicts and negotiate solutions
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills with proven ability to interact with a diverse range of individuals both in person and virtual, applying tact and discretion as situations demand
  • Must have excellent organizational, time management and follow-up skills
  • Responsible and professional conduct that serves as role model to staff and youth
  • Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines

Nice To Haves

  • Teaching and program management experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Artist will deliver instruction for voice and acting techniques for Broadway Camp Jr. as part of the Collaborative School of the Arts.
  • Artist will provide vocal and acting coaching, constructive evaluation to song and monologue cuts and ensemble performance, helping each student develop skills and techniques as individuals and as a class.
  • Artist will collaborate with Choreographer to develop a well-rounded training experience and end of week showcase.
  • Artist will inspire students to be creative and assist in creating an atmosphere of self-expression and self-esteem building.
  • Artist will develop an end of the week's performance, showcasing the highlights of what the students learned throughout the week.
  • Artist is responsible for supervising students at all times during the Program.
