POSITION OVERVIEW Yellowstone Academy is seeking a qualified Broadfield Social Studies Teacher dedicated to working with a diverse student population in need of consistency, structure, and emotional support. The Social Studies Teacher will deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction aligned with Montana Office of Public Instruction (OPI) Social Studies standards. This position supports students in developing critical thinking, civic understanding, historical perspective, and real-world awareness. Classes are intentionally small (up to 10 students), allowing for individualized instruction and strong relationship-building. Yellowstone Academy utilizes a relationship-based approach supported by collaboration among academic, residential, clinical, and support staff. The ideal candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to develop lesson plans, implement curriculum, and monitor student progress. We are looking for an educator who is passionate about student growth and committed to creating a structured, engaging classroom environment. Because Yellowstone Academy operates year-round, summer employment opportunities and additional instructional opportunities for extra compensation are available.

Requirements

  • Valid Montana teaching license with Broadfield Social Studies endorsement (or ability to obtain)
  • Strong content knowledge in history, government, geography, and civics
  • Ability to engage and support diverse learners
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in alternative, residential, or specialized educational settings
  • Experience with online learning platforms and credit recovery systems
  • Experience working with students needing behavioral or emotional support

Responsibilities

  • Teach Social Studies courses such as: U.S. History World History Government / Civics Geography Contemporary Issues / Current Events
  • Align curriculum with Montana OPI Social Studies standards
  • Incorporate project-based learning and real-world connections
  • Promote critical thinking, civic engagement, and historical analysis
  • Support literacy skills within social studies instruction
  • Support and monitor students using online learning platforms for credit recovery and elective coursework
  • Provide academic support and progress monitoring
  • Maintain accurate student records and meet state requirements
  • Collaborate with academic, residential, clinical, and support staff to support individualized student plans
