About The Position

The Broadcast and Live Events Producer is responsible for overseeing the production and coordination of various broadcasts and live events, ensuring their successful execution and seamless delivery to our audiences. The Broadcast and Live Events Producer will collaborate with various teams, including production crews, talent, technicians, and stakeholders, to ensure the highest level of quality and professionalism in all aspects of the production process. Western Governors University (WGU) is seeking a Broadcast and Live Events Producer to lead the planning and execution of high‑visibility, mission‑critical broadcasts and live events that connect students, faculty, and employees across the university. In this role, you will own the end‑to‑end production lifecycle for events such as town halls, conferences, summits, and web‑based broadcasts—ensuring every experience is executed with precision, professionalism, and purpose. Your work will directly shape how WGU shows up for its community and reinforces trust in our mission. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Broadcasting, Film Production, Communications, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
  • 5+ years of experience producing broadcast and live events.
  • Demonstrated experience managing live productions end‑to-end.
  • A strong portfolio showcasing successful execution of live and broadcast events across formats.
  • Deep knowledge of broadcast and live‑event production techniques, workflows, and industry best practices.
  • Proficiency with production and planning tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, ENPS, Rundown Creator , or similar platforms.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and budgeting skills.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership abilities.
  • Proven ability to remain calm, decisive, and solutions‑focused during live events.
  • Sound judgment and strong problem‑solving instincts in high‑pressure environments.
  • A creative mindset with a drive to innovate and continuously improve.
  • Commitment to accessibility, inclusion, and delivering experiences that serve diverse audiences.

  • Primarily desk‑based with prolonged computer use.
  • Ability to lift and transport production equipment (up to 50 lbs. as needed).
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays based on event schedules.
  • Ability to travel for on‑site event coordination as required.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, produce, and execute live and broadcast events from concept through post‑production, including virtual and in‑person experiences.
  • Translate creative vision and stakeholder goals into clear, actionable production plans and run‑of‑show documentation.
  • Lead all phases of production: pre‑production, rehearsals, live execution, and post‑event wrap‑up.
  • Partner closely with internal stakeholders, production crews, talent, technicians, and vendors to deliver seamless event experiences.
  • Serve as the central point of coordination during live events, making real‑time decisions to resolve issues and keep productions on track.
  • Collaborate with marketing and communications teams to maximize engagement and reach.
  • Develop and manage production budgets, ensuring responsible use of resources and alignment with financial guidelines.
  • Source, coordinate, and manage external vendors, equipment, and technical support.
  • Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and safety requirements (copyright, licensing, labor, health and safety).
  • Conduct post‑event evaluations and analysis to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Apply learnings to elevate production quality, efficiency, and audience experience over time.
