About The Position

The Office of Broadband and Digital Equity (BDE) is seeking a high school or college intern to support the BDE Tech Team. This internship offers hands-on experience with the expansion, support, and maintenance of the FreeBmoreWiFi broadband network, a free public Wi-Fi service deployed at select recreation centers, senior centers, and community hubs across Baltimore. The intern will also gain exposure to project management and senior-level management operations.

Requirements

• For high school students: An interest in pursuing a career in information technology, an associated apprenticeship or technical training, or a college degree.
• High school graduates: An interest in pursing a career or higher education (college or professional training) in information technology.
• College students: Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in an associated information technology or computer science field.
• Currently attend a Maryland high school as a junior/senior
• Currently attend a Maryland higher education institution
• Graduated from a Maryland high school, but currently attend a non-Maryland higher education institution
• Graduated from a Maryland high school, and is currently enrolled or graduated from a career technical training program
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• Ability to work independently and within a team
• Detail-oriented with a structured approach to tasks
• Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams

Responsibilities

• Support of project management practices and processes
• Support of team scrum practices and processes
• Support of network engineering activities such as network monitoring, issue troubleshooting, issue remediation, and quality assurance and maintenance activities
• Support of performance reporting and metrics
• Support of BDE program events
