About The Position

Collins Engineers has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Bridge Inspection Team Leader to work directly with the Illinois DOT bridge engineers in their Elk Grove, IL office. Desired candidate will assist the Departments engineers, Managers, and Technicians in the daily work required to inspect structures throughout IDOT District One and to prepare reports documenting their condition and deficiencies. Work to include various other tasks including, but not limited to, field notes, cross sections, depth checks, updating IHIS database items including SNBI inventory. Typical work assignments of the individual will be to perform Bridge Inspections in accordance with NBIS procedures for NSTM, Element Level, and Routine Inspections; prepare structure repair field notes and assist in the daily workload within assigned geographical area. This candidate preferably will reside in Northeast Illinois, but relocation will be considered. Responsible for engineering projects of varying size and complexity in field or office in accordance with plans and specifications. Field work required, which could include nights and weekends. Ability to climb and inspect various types of bridges, including wading in streams, and be comfortable working at heights for extended periods of time. Prepare complete engineering plans or reports. Direct and supervises the work of entry-level engineers, technicians, drafters, and administrative staff. Coach field staff on the purpose and processes of inspections and inspection techniques. Make independent decisions within a general framework. Use computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents. Successfully develops and maintains meaningful relationships with clients. Supervises and monitors client relationships strategies. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and/or master’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited four-year university and a minimum of 6 years of bridge inspection experience.
  • Must be Team Leader Certified in the State of Illinois.
  • Must have passed the NHI/FHWA Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges course #130055 and/or #130056.
  • Firm understanding SNBI Inventory data and ratings.
  • Must have experience in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
  • Engineer-in-training (E.I.T.) certification required.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities
