About The Position

AECOM’s Structural Bridge Engineering Practice is seeking an experienced Bridge Engineer (Structural Engineer) with a passion for bridge design/structural engineering. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a well-established and very successful bridge design group that offers a diverse range of projects, technical challenges, and career development opportunities. As part of our Greater Pennsylvania Area (GPA), we have several offices, which include: Philadelphia, PA, Conshohocken, PA, Mechanicsburg, PA, Pittsburgh, PA, and Morgantown, WV. The Bridge Engineer is a hybrid role, working 2 days from one of these AECOM GPA offices and 3 days remotely each week. AECOM’s GPA Bridge Engineering Practice works on projects throughout North America. These projects are delivered across many clients via various delivery methods. This includes steel and concrete bridges and other transportation structures, such as walls and sign structures that are critical to our nation’s transportation network and vital to local communities. These projects can include: vehicular, pedestrian, light-rail transit and freight rail bridges; stationary and movable bridges. Our Bridge Engineers perform evaluation and design for rehabilitation and replacement of bridges.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering with structures focus and four (4) years of relevant experience working on bridges and other transportation structures or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineering License (PE)
  • Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering
  • Six (6) or more years of experience with structural bridge design
  • Project experience with PennDOT, Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission and/or other State DOTs
  • Proficiency with CAD and similar computer software
  • Experience in Finite Element Analysis using CSiBridge or other bridge FE analysis software
  • Experience in BIM delivery and/or modeling using Bentley Open Bridge Modeler (OBM) or other modeling software
  • Experience with alternative delivery methods or projects with early contractor involvement

Responsibilities

  • Conceptual, preliminary and detailed final design of new bridges and other structures
  • Analysis and rehabilitation design of existing bridges
  • Use of computer software for the analysis and design of bridges and other structures
  • Preparation and/or quality review checking of technical reports, design calculations, and structural plans
  • Preparation and/or quality review checking of technical specifications and construction cost estimates
  • Working both independently and with groups of engineers, designers and/or specialists toward the development of structural design documents and contract deliverables
  • Following of QA/QC procedures to ensure the technical quality of deliverables, and assisting with responses to client’s comments on structural design elements of the deliverables.
  • Training, mentoring and helping to develop junior structural engineering staff; and
  • Structural-related project task management.
