The Opportunity: We are currently seeking a Bridge Designer I to join our Transportation Business Line in either our Harrisburg or Pittsburgh, PA offices. This role offers a flexible work schedule, including hybrid (virtual and in-office) options. This position is ideal for an early-career engineer who is interested in developing technical expertise in bridge and structural design for transportation projects. You will work alongside experienced engineers on a variety of bridge projects, gaining hands-on experience in design, analysis, inspection, and construction support. What You’ll Do: As a Bridge Designer I, you will support the design and analysis of bridge structures for highway and transportation projects. You will contribute to all phases of project delivery while developing your technical and professional skills in a collaborative team environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred or ability to obtain.
  • Familiarity with Bentley MicroStation and/or OpenBridge Designer (OBD) preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

  • Apply structural engineering principles to support the design of steel and concrete bridge systems, including plate girders, rolled beams, prestressed concrete, and post-tensioned components.
  • Perform structural design calculations, load analysis, and quantity takeoffs.
  • Assist in the development of engineering plans, specifications, and technical reports.
  • Utilize design software and CAD tools, including Bentley MicroStation and OpenBridge Designer (OBD), to develop plans and structural details.
  • Support the design and analysis of new bridge structures and rehabilitation projects.
  • Participate in bridge inspections and assist with inspection documentation and reporting if interested.
  • Perform or assist with bridge load ratings.
  • Support construction-related engineering activities including temporary shoring, falsework design, and erection calculations.
  • Review shop drawings and assist in construction phase support activities.
  • Collaborate with project teams to ensure timely and accurate project delivery.
