ROLE SUMMARY: The Process Engineer supports performance, quality, and Brewing operations within the brewery. This role focuses on stabilizing processes, improving line efficiency, and reducing losses through a strong technical understanding of Brewing equipment, automation, and process controls. The Process Engineer works closely with Brewing, Maintenance, and Engineering teams to troubleshoot issues, improve equipment performance, and implement sustainable process improvements. This position serves as a technical resource for the brewing department and plays a key role in strengthening controls and automation capabilities across the site, including supporting technician development and equipment upgrades that enable safe, efficient, and consistent production. Note: This role requires specialized technical skills beyond those of a general process engineer. We are specifically seeking an engineer with strong experience in controls and instrumentation. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), VFD programming and troubleshooting, and computer-based process control systems (e.g., FactoryTalk, WinCC, or similar platforms).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related technical field preferred
  • Manufacturing environment experience required; union environment experience preferred
  • Demonstrated experience with controls and automation systems in an industrial setting
  • PLC or ladder logic experience preferred; exposure to multiple platforms such as Allen-Bradley (PLC5, ControlLogix) and Siemens programming/troubleshooting strongly preferred
  • Strong computer proficiency required (Microsoft Excel, including VBA; SAP/CMMS experience preferred)
  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or structured problem-solving methodologies
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a team-oriented mindset and ability to influence cross-functional partners
  • Demonstrated leadership capability and ability to lead change
  • Willingness to work rotating

Responsibilities

  • Support performance and process stability of the brewing department, including filters, yeast separators, malt mills, and associated automated systems
  • Analyze process losses, downtime, and quality issues; identify root causes and implement corrective actions
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for electrical, controls, and automation systems, including PLC-controlled equipment, VFDs, sensors, HMIs, and safety systems
  • Develop, maintain, and improve process control standards to ensure consistent execution and product quality
  • Partner with Brewing and Maintenance teams to troubleshoot equipment issues and improve reliability and throughput
  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment design, controls logic, automation, and overall line efficiency
  • Develop and upskill maintenance technicians on controls and automation systems to strengthen site capability
  • Support development and execution of production standards, operating parameters, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Use data and Lean / VPO tools to track performance, reduce variation, and sustain improvements
  • Support production scheduling, maintenance planning, and inventory alignment by providing process and performance insights
  • Support safety, energy, and environmental initiatives, with emphasis on machine and electrical safety
  • Partner with Engineering and CAPEX teams on Brewing equipment upgrades, trials, and ROI-driven projects
