About The Position

The Associate, Brand Strategy plays a pivotal role in shaping how Macy's shows up in the world, helping to connect culture, customers, and creativity in ways that move Macy's forward. Working alongside the Senior Director of Brand Strategy, this person will help develop integrated campaigns that are insight-led, culturally relevant, and emotionally resonant. The ideal candidate is insatiably curious: about people, culture, retail, and what makes brands matter. They know how to spot the unobvious gems that inspire big ideas and can turn those insights into clear, compelling briefs that spark breakthrough creative. The candidate doesn't need deep retail experience, but they should be passionate about retail and how it is evolving.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of marketing principles, consumer behavior, brand strategy development and the retail landscape.
  • Exceptionally strong research, analytical, and writing skills. Relentlessly curious and resourceful, exploring both established and unconventional sources to uncover powerful insights and turn them into clear, inspiring stories and briefs
  • Highly motivated self-starter with a strong internal drive and bias toward action; proactively identifies opportunities, takes initiative, and moves work forward without needing to be prompted.
  • Is a detail-oriented problem solver who can manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Influential Communicator who practices open and continuous communication, values keeping others informed, effectively presenting information in a clear, concise, and inspiring way.
  • 5-7+ years of experience in brand strategy, marketing, or integrated campaign development, preferably within retail, fashion, or consumer lifestyle categories
  • Candidates with a Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply.
  • Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel. Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms. Requires close vision.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure adherence to brand guidelines across all marketing materials and communications
  • Lead the planning and execution of creative brief and marketing plan tactical support, including:
  • Partner with the customer team to understand customer needs and behaviors, leveraging these insights to develop compelling briefs and marketing plans
  • Collaborate with trend forecasting and editorial content teams to include key seasonal trend and key item priorities for briefing
  • Effectively communicate marketing brief details and deliverables to cross functional teams, ensuring seamless integration across digital and in-store channels for campaign cohesiveness
  • Review all concepts to guarantee alignment with campaign objectives, providing timely and constructive feedback
  • Lead postmortem process to capture key successes and opportunities for future campaigns
  • Hunt for what's next in culture, category, and market trends, transforming those signals into insights, opportunities, and provocations that push the work (and the team) forward
  • Work closely with creative teams, providing clear direction and igniting their passion to develop big ideas.
  • Foster a collaborative environment where marketing, creative, and merchandising teams work seamlessly to bring strategic vision to life.
  • Collaborate with external agency partners effectively, ensuring a smooth relationship and delivering exceptional results.
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities.
