About The Position

Livingston Parish Library seeks a dedicated and experienced library professional to join its staff as Branch Manager at its Denham Springs-Walker Branch. This position is part of the Library's management team and oversees a branch serving a large portion of the local community. The Branch Manager performs professional-level work overseeing the daily activities and functions of the branch. The Branch Manager applies independent judgment and discretion based on library policies, procedures, and the principles and practices of librarianship. The branch offers a large computer lab, study rooms, public meeting rooms, Career Center, and an "Idea Lab". Facility: 28,920 square feet Staff Size: 31

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of library principles, methods, techniques, and procedures,
  • ability to plan, lead, and supervise the work of others, tact and courtesy, ability to work in a team environment, ability to speak effectively in public, good professional judgment
  • Master's degree in library science.
  • A minimum of two years' experience in a library setting.
  • completion of the assessment test, transcripts of degree earned (if applicable), and successful completion of background and MVR check.

Nice To Haves

  • Supervisory experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of roughly thirty employees, maintaining a positive environment to provide excellent public service
  • Coordinates, prioritize, and assigns tasks and projects; tracks and reviews work progress and activities.
  • Train new employees and re-train existing staff in new policies and procedures
  • Arrange staff schedules to provide optimum coverage and service
  • Encourage, motivate, coach, discipline/documentation, and evaluate employees
  • Ensure accuracy and timely submission of payroll and leave records
  • Maintain knowledge of library policies and procedures
  • Interpret library policies, resolve staff and patron complaints and problems
  • Assist with ongoing collection development; select or recommend titles.
  • Performs regular checks of buildings and grounds. Notifies proper persons of maintenance and repair needs. Act as liaison for facility maintenance vendors.
  • Supervise custodial workers, community service workers, volunteers
  • Participate in committees to help formalize policies and procedures, review new technologies, select relevant resources, and contribute strategic plan ideas
  • Work cooperatively with other library departments to provide staff for in-house and outreach events.
  • Work with local community organizations, artists, and other notable persons to provide art shows, displays, and other meaningful events for the community
  • Assist programming departments in planning and executing programs for all ages
  • Proctor tests for students upon request
  • Under the direction of library administration, supervise special projects such as collections inventory, branch renovations, and disaster preparation.
  • While the branch manager is responsible for administrative duties, he or she is also a working manager. The branch manager should be ready and able to step into any staff position and fill it in the absence of that employee or as additional staff in time of need.
  • In addition to stated responsibilities, the branch manager is also expected to perform other tasks necessary for the successful operation of the branch.
