About The Position

James Irwin Charter Schools is committed to fostering academic excellence and character development in a supportive and challenging environment. We currently serve over 2,000 students in six schools across four campuses. We are seeking an experienced Bookkeeper to join our team. The Bookkeeper supports the financial operations of the charter school by processing accounts payable, preparing business office financial documents, and assisting the accounting team and Director of Finance with compliance requirements. This position helps ensure accurate financial records, timely payments, and adherence to school, district, state, federal, and authorizer requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required; associate’s degree or coursework in accounting, bookkeeping, finance, or business administration preferred.
  • Previous bookkeeping, accounts payable, or school finance experience required.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles and financial recordkeeping.
  • Experience with accounting software, spreadsheets, and standard office applications.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with accountants, school staff, and leadership.
  • Ability to process high-volume financial transactions with accuracy.
  • Ability to interpret and follow financial procedures and internal controls.
  • Ability to maintain compliance with authorizer, state, and federal requirements.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of charter school finance, public school accounting, or Colorado school compliance requirements preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Process accounts payable accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Review, prepare, and enter invoices for payment.
  • Prepare purchase orders and check requests, and weekly deposits for the business office.
  • Maintain organized financial records and supporting documentation.
  • Assist accountants with account reconciliation, data entry, and routine financial reporting.
  • Support the Director of Finance in maintaining compliance with multiple charter school authorizers and applicable regulations.
  • Monitor financial documentation to ensure completeness, accuracy, and proper approvals.
  • Communicate with vendors, staff, and school leadership regarding invoices, payments, and purchasing documentation.
  • Help ensure transactions are coded correctly and aligned with budgets, grants, and applicable funding requirements.
  • Assist with audits, financial reviews, and requests for supporting documentation.
  • Maintain confidentiality of financial, employee, and student-related information.
  • Provide general administrative support to the business office as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of school finance and operations.
