The state supported living centers serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or who have behavioral problems. The centers provide campus-based direct services and supports at 13 centers located throughout the state. The Boiler Operator/Security Officer works under the general supervision of the Lead Operator/Officer. Boiler Operator/Security Officer will operate out of the Powerhouse and, will perform checks at the Powerhouse once per hour, not to ever exceed 2 hours, to ensure proper operation of the boilers and associated equipment - adjustments will be made as necessary. Performs entry-level work in the operation and maintenance of steam-generating equipment. Boiler Operator/Security Officer is also responsible for responding to medical, fire and other emergencies, controlling traffic, securing buildings, identifying unfamiliar persons on campus, searching for missing individuals, and performing smoking area and parking lot inspections. Boiler Operator/Security Officer will provide transport for individuals and provide home staff support with combative/disruptive individuals & employees when requested and available for such duties. A written daily shift report for shift continuity will be maintained and submitted via email at the end of the shift. Minor on-campus repairs will be performed as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Effective and appropriate oral and written communication skills.
  • Skilled in the use of SUR (Safe Use of Restraint) techniques.
  • Skilled in the use of Ukeru techniques.
  • Understanding and consistent competent application of safety and security rules and regulations of the facility
  • Safe and skilled use of proper lifting techniques. Safe and skilled use of appropriate mechanical lifts used by the facility.
  • Good interpersonal skills for positive interaction with individuals.
  • Skilled in CPR techniques.
  • Must be physically and mentally able to perform the required essential functions.
  • Ability to work productively under conditions with high stress levels, varied environmental conditions and for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions, frequently for extended periods.
  • Ability to administer mature judgement.
  • Ability to work effectively with co-workers, family members and Individuals.
  • Ability to drive a state vehicle and successfully complete all required drivers training.
  • Ability to operate large-scale boilers and associated equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to perform minor repairs on equipment and buildings.
  • Position required to drive and requires a valid Driver's License and eligible driving record based on HHSC Fleet Management policy. Applicants with an out-of-state driver's license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure. Must possess valid TX driver's license or obtain it no later than 20 days after hire date.
  • High School Diploma or GED or Work Experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer experience regarding security operations and associated duties related to patrol & monitoring.
  • Prefer experience in general maintenance.
  • Prefer experience with HVAC equipment.

Responsibilities
