About The Position

Penn State is searching for a full time Body Repairer - Grade 4 to join the team. Duties include: Examine damaged vehicle bodies and prepare time and materials estimates for repairs Repair damaged bodies and parts of vehicles; straighten dents; remove various components and accessories to gain access to body parts needing repairs; fill depressions with solder, lead, or other plastic materials; file, grind and sand repaired surfaces using power and hand tools Replace windshields, rear and side glass and seal Refinish repaired surface by priming and smoothing; mix paints to match according to prescribed formulas and apply Remove excessively damaged components using hand tools or cutting torch; install replacement components by bolting or welding Paint replaces components with rust preventative components, as required Straighten bent frames using hydraulic jacks and pulling devices Perform repairs related to body work Remove, disassemble, repair, reassemble, reinstall, test and adjust equipment and/or component parts such as alternators and generators, electrical systems, steering and suspension parts, drive shafts and differentials, brake systems, etc., as related to accident damage Operate various pieces of testing and repair equipment, such as wheel aligners, wheel balancers, and other equipment necessary to determine extent of repairs necessary Make repairs and adjustments as necessary. Inspect vehicles according to Commonwealth of Pennsylvania inspection regulations Maintain record of inspections performed on vehicles Requisition parts from stock room and record same Maintain work areas in clean and orderly condition Detect unusual conditions or defective materials and report to supervisor

Requirements

  • Requires the use of advanced shop mathematics, together with the use of complicated drawings, specifications, charts, tables, handbook formulas, all varieties of adjustable measuring instruments and the use of broad training in a recognized trade or craft.
  • Equivalent to a complete accredited, indentured apprenticeship or equivalent to high school plus a 2-year technical college education.
  • Requires Category 1 PA State Inspection License and Emissions Certification.
  • Over 2 up to and including 3 years of effective experience.
  • Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies.
  • This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
