About The Position

The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum (CBMM) explores and preserves the history, environment, and culture of the entire Chesapeake Bay region, and makes this resource accessible to all. As a vital community partner and industry leader, CBMM will create engaging, immersive, and transformative experiences that educate and inspire individuals throughout the Chesapeake Bay region and beyond. SCOPE: CBMM's Boat Donation Program (BDP) is a very important source of earned revenue for CBMM, and key to the success of the program is assessing the quality of potential donations, retrieving donated vessels, and working to make them presentable for sale.

Requirements

  • Prior marina experience preferred.
  • Knowledge and competency in the operation and maintenance of boats in general.
  • Licensed boat operator, captain’s license preferred.
  • Competent written, oral, and computing skills.
  • Ability to interact with the public in a positive and enthusiastic manner.
  • A clean driver’s license.
  • Prolonged periods standing, climbing, bending, and kneeling.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds at a time.
  • Must be able to safely work with sharp tools and/or power equipment.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and terrains.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and field direct inquiries from donors about possible donations, and buyers about possible sales.
  • Assess the quality of the vessels and accept if they meet BDP's acceptance criteria.
  • Transport or arrange the transportation of accepted vessels to CBMM.
  • Liaise closely with the BDP Administrative Assistant to ensure that images, donation paperwork, and sales paperwork are organized and fully executed.
  • Schedule, manage, and work with CBMM volunteers who support the BDP.
  • Be familiar and proficient with the processes of receiving donated boats and equipment as well as Maryland DNR title transfer and internal recordation.
  • Clean and maintain the condition of BDP vessels as required to support vessel sales.
  • Maintain BDP vessels and equipment in CBMM's St. Michaels and Easton land-based storage facilities and CBMM’s on campus marina, to maximize use and efficiency of storage space.
  • Keep those work environments clean and presentable.
  • Present boats to potential buyers as required in support of the BDP Manager.
  • Be present for all special events/festivals unless otherwise arranged with the COO or President and may be assigned to work in a capacity alternate to that defined.
