About The Position

TURN Behavioral Health Services is seeking a licensed Clinical Psychologist (PsyD) or similar to join our distinguished Board of Directors. This pivotal volunteer position is ideal for a PsyD level with extensive leadership experience in mental and behavioral health settings. As a vital member of the Board, you will play a key role in guiding the organization’s clinical strategy, supporting regulatory and ethical compliance, and upholding our commitment to exceptional quality of care, while advancing TURN’s mission to enhance community wellness.

Requirements

  • Experience and accomplishments in business, government, philanthropy, or the non-profit sector.
  • Doctoral degree (PsyD or PhD) in Clinical Psychology from an accredited institution and active licensure in the state of practice.
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive clinical and operational leadership experience within mental health, behavioral health, healthcare systems, or public health sectors.
  • Profound understanding of behavioral health regulations, compliance frameworks, nonprofit governance and contemporary care models.
  • Demonstrated unwavering commitment to equity, recovery, and the provision of culturally responsive care.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience serving on the Board of Directors for a non-profit or healthcare organization.
  • Familiarity with Medi-Cal systems and the broader California mental health landscape.
  • Experience in supporting quality improvement or system transformation efforts within healthcare.

Responsibilities

  • Serving on one committee; our standing committees include: Board Development, HR, Ethics & Compliance, Finance, Audit, and Executive.
  • Attending the bi-monthly meetings of our full Board, which are held virtually and in person.
  • Provide expert clinical guidance on strategic initiatives, regulatory compliance, and the development of new programs and initiatives.
  • Support critical quality improvement initiatives, licensing and accreditation efforts, and the integration of care models.
  • Collaborate closely with other board members, including those with strategic planning, business development, financial and HR expertise, to ensure a well-rounded and forward-thinking approach to organizational strategy.
  • Reviewing and approving, as appropriate, TURN Behavioral Health Services annual budget, audit reports, and material business decisions; being informed of (& meeting) all legal and fiduciary responsibilities.
  • Develop and explore strategies to diversify the organization's funding sources and increase philanthropic support.
  • Participate in fundraising campaigns, events, and donor stewardship efforts to cultivate a culture of philanthropy within the organization.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the organization's community engagement and philanthropic efforts and recommend improvements as needed.
  • Perform duties of board membership responsibility and conform to the level of competence expected from board members as outlines in the duties of care, loyalty, and obedience as they apply to non-profit board members.
  • Reviewing outcomes and metrics created by TURN Behavioral Health Services for evaluating its impact and regularly measuring its performance and effectiveness using those metrics; reviewing agenda and supporting materials prior to board and committee meetings.
  • Contributing to an annual performance evaluation of the CEO.
  • Participate in board meetings, committees, and decision-making processes to provide strategic direction and guidance on matters related to community connection and philanthropy.
  • Assisting the CEO and board chair in identifying and recruiting other Board Members.
  • Partnering with the CEO and other board members to ensure that board resolutions are carried out.
  • Serving on committees or task forces and taking on special assignments.
