About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Fiber Superintendent to oversee the installation, routing, testing, and quality of fiber optic infrastructure for ground -up data center construction projects in the South Chicago region. This role requires deep technical knowledge of OSP/ISP fiber systems, structured cabling, pathways, containment, and mission -critical installation standards. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in North America; visa sponsorship is not available.

Requirements

  • 5–10+ years of experience supervising fiber optic, structured cabling, or low -voltage installations on large -scale construction projects.
  • Experience with data center or mission -critical fiber systems (required).
  • Strong understanding of OSP/ISP fiber installation, splicing, termination, and testing.
  • Ability to read and interpret fiber routing diagrams, RCPs, riser diagrams, and pathway drawings.
  • Proven experience coordinating with GCs, network engineers, and MEP teams.
  • Strong field leadership, communication, and problem -solving skills.
  • Hands -on, on -site leadership style with ability to manage fast -paced deployment environments.

Nice To Haves

  • BICSI certification (TECH, INST, or RCDD).
  • Experience with hyperscale or multi -building data center campus fiber networks.
  • Familiarity with Procore, Bluebeam, and fiber testing/reporting software.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily field supervision for fiber optic installation, ensuring work meets design specifications, industry standards, and data center reliability requirements.
  • Oversee installation of fiber raceways, cable trays, ladder racks, innerduct, conduit, and distribution frames.
  • Manage both OSP (outside plant) and ISP (inside plant) fiber construction, including duct banks, vaults, building entries, and fiber room build -outs.
  • Supervise routing, pulling, labeling, dressing, and securing of fiber optic cabling—single -mode and multi -mode.
  • Oversee all termination and splicing activities, ensuring precision workmanship and adherence to manufacturer and TIA standards.
  • Verify routing plans, cable counts, and pathway assignments to avoid conflicts and maintain redundancy layouts.
  • Lead fiber testing activities, including OTDR, power meter/light source, end -to -end certification, and polarity verification.
  • Document test results, track deficiencies, and ensure corrective actions are completed.
  • Support commissioning teams to ensure fiber systems are fully integrated and ready to support network startup and IST.
  • Coordinate daily with General Contractors, low -voltage teams, electricians, and mechanical trades to ensure fiber installations align with MEP sequencing and overall construction progress.
  • Participate in coordination meetings to ensure pathways, penetrations, and supports are completed ahead of fiber installation.
  • Collaborate with network engineers and owner teams to validate rack layouts, patch panel configurations, and distribution pathways.
  • Enforce strict quality standards for fiber installation, ensuring proper bend radius, cable management, secure routing, and environmental protection.
  • Ensure compliance with TIA, BICSI, NEC, and project -specific standards.
  • Maintain safety protocols for elevated work, ladder use, mechanical rooms, and congested spaces.
  • Maintain accurate installation logs, test documentation, as -built updates, labeling records, and pathway status reports.
  • Provide regular updates to project managers, commissioning teams, and network stakeholders.
