About The Position

Archer is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented intern to join Archer. This internship provides a hands-on opportunity to gain practical experience within the BMS Integration & Test team. The BMS Test Engineer-Intern will play a vital role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and optimal performance of our Battery Management Systems (BMS).This role is important because the employee will contribute directly to the development of rigorous test automation frameworks crucial for validating the system against complex aerospace certification standards. The intern's work will directly support the goal of deploying a safe, high-performance electric aircraft designed to transform urban air mobility.

Requirements

  • Going into the 3rd or 4th year in college pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in at least one object-oriented or scripting language, preferably Python or MATLAB, for developing test automation scripts.
  • Basic understanding of control systems, signal processing, and familiarity with laboratory equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies).
  • Familiarity with interpreting electrical schematics and wiring diagrams to assist in the setup and troubleshooting of test fixtures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a meticulous attention to detail required for technical documentation and traceability.
  • Must be a self-starter and a proactive team player who thrives in a fast-paced, highly collaborative engineering environment.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze System Requirements: Review and interpret BMS system requirements and stringent airworthiness specifications to translate high-level functional needs into detailed, executable test cases for subsystem validation.
  • Design and Implement Automated Test Sequences: Focus on creating and implementing robust automated test scripts, primarily using Python or MATLAB, to verify the functionality and redundancy of critical BMS subsystems, ensuring repeatable testing required for certification.
  • Develop Test Hardware and Interfaces: Assist in the design and setup of specialized mechanical and electrical test fixtures (e.g., for HIL or functional bench testing) that can be seamlessly controlled and scripted via an embedded control system to accurately simulate real operating conditions.
  • Cover Corner Cases and Edge Conditions: Strategically design tests to rigorously explore critical corner cases, fault injection scenarios, and to fully validate the BMS's robustness and safety response as required.
  • Troubleshoot and Debug: Participate actively in troubleshooting and debugging the test setup, automation scripts, and the BMS itself, collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams to identify and confirm root causes of issues impacting functionality.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Document the developed test automation framework, maintain detailed records of test results, and generate clear, concise technical reports and traceability matrices suitable for internal quality audits and external regulatory review.
