Under limited supervision, the Blaster / Prime Painter cleans, prepares, grit blasts, primes, and paints assigned parts and equipment by operating conventional spray equipment and the PBC Autoblast System. This role is critical in ensuring high-quality finishes that meet company specifications, safety standards, and production requirements. Schedule: Sunday through Thursday, 7:00 PM – 5:00 AM (four 10-hour shifts)

  • Discuss and review work orders, prime specifications, parts, and painting requirements with the Lead to ensure understanding of job expectations and parts flow
  • Obtain parts or units to be blasted, primed, or painted using forklift, crane, or trucks
  • Prepare each workpiece to ensure no damage occurs during grit blasting and priming
  • Operate the PBC Autoblast System to achieve the desired surface finish
  • Obtain primer and paint materials and mix to proper consistency and viscosity
  • Assemble painting equipment and connect paint containers, ensuring pumps are properly cleaned and connected
  • Properly apply primer using air-assisted spray systems to achieve required finish standards
  • Continuously inspect blasted, primed, and painted parts or units; make spray gun adjustments as needed
  • Perform minor repairs on blast and prime booths; repair, clean, and reassemble spray guns and related equipment
  • Provide work direction to less experienced department employees as needed
  • Accumulate, inspect, and label waste materials in accordance with company and safety standards; notify supervisor when drums are full for removal
  • Handle fabricated parts and maintain inventory of paints, thinners, reducers, hardeners, and coal tar
  • Paint racks, trailers, fixtures, tables, pipelines, elbows, maintenance parts, and spare parts
  • Operate barcode scanners and computers for tracking and documentation
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 2–4 years of experience preferred with pressure-feed power washers, spray guns, hand trucks, forklifts, PBC Autoblast systems, cranes, and common hand tools
  • Familiarity with computers and handheld barcode scanners
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety standards
  • Required to re-certify annually for respirator use due to hazardous dust, fumes, and coal tar exposure
  • Perform work on the production floor 100% of the time
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, as needed
