JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 Work Shift: Mon - Fri, 7:00am -3:30 pm Summary of the Job: The HIM Birth Certificate Specialist is responsible for the daily operations of interviewing parents of newborns and completing the required forms to accurately process birth certificates and/or fetal death certificates. The HIM Birth Certificate Specialist is also responsible for completing acknowledgement of paternity forms, as appropriate, and delayed birth certificates within allowable timeframes required and completing the Medicaid Application process for newborns as appropriate. The HIM Birth Certificate Specialist is responsible for updating baby names upon completion of the birth certificate, as well as maintaining related work queues.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required; 2 - 6 years relevant experience OR Associate or Bachelor's degree, in lieu of experience.
  • Individual must be flexible, well organized and work well in the absence of direct supervision.
  • Must possess good time management skills and be able to meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of commonly used relevant hospital and/or clinic systems, concepts, practices and procedures.
  • Proficient in the use of personal computers, Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Individual must possess excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to anticipate issues that adversely impact the function of the birth certificate process and the HIM Department and use analytical and reasoning skills to proactively solve issues.

Responsibilities
