What You Will Do: Performs preventive maintenance (PM) and electrical safety testing of therapeutic, diagnostic or life support technologies by testing, inspecting, and analyzing medical equipment and making evaluations based on assessments. Completes all monthly PM assignments; documents same. Reviews outcome of preventive maintenance actions and makes recommendations concerning changes to preventive maintenance schedules, procedures or documentation. Repairs, installs, maintains, calibrates, and inspects therapeutic, diagnostic or life support systems. Establishes, maintains, and utilizes a medical equipment management program to promote safe and effective use of medical equipment. Establishes and monitors performance standards for equipment management. Performs departmental user education programs and recommends training of the departmental work force for skill and trade development. Ensures competency assessments are developed and implemented for training and use of new medical equipment. Minimizes clinical and physical risks of medical equipment. Assists with maintaining established policies and procedures for Clinical Engineering. Provides inventory control, assessments and audits. Maintains documentation of all actions and test results according to department policy. Orders items and determines restocking needs for medical equipment service. Performs rounds in assigned areas and participates in on-call rotation. Serves as a resource to user departments by providing assistance and instruction on proper use of equipment. Collaborates with Information Systems to ensure Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliance for all medical equipment systems that deal with patient information.

Requirements

  • High school graduate with an Associate’s Degree in biomedical engineering or related field.
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience required in medical electronic repair and trouble-shooting.
  • Two to three years’ experience working in a healthcare environment.
  • Knowledge of proper and safe use of hand and power tools.
  • Must be thoroughly familiar with test equipment and tools used in repairing medical equipment.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to understand, and follow, written and oral instructions.
  • Works well independently or as a team member.
  • Punctual attendance at assigned work location is required.
  • Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner and maintain an accident free work place, including ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of Hospital emergency codes.
  • Ability to comply with OSHA regulations and CDC standard and transmission-based precaution recommendations and to utilize proper personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to comply with provisions of applicable S.D.S. forms.

  • Certified Biomedical Technician (CBET) preferred.
