Promotes medical equipment safety for WVUHS by performing maintenance and repairs and providing instruction and assistance to hospital staff for general patient care, diagnostic, and certain life support equipment. Assists hospital in reaching financial goals through effective equipment management.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology, Electronics Technology or equivalent field AND Two (2) years of experience with repairs and maintenance of electronic, mechanical, or electrical assemblies.
  • Completion of a U.S. DoD Biomedical Equipment Maintenance Technician program AND Two (2) years of experience with repairs and maintenance of electronic, mechanical, or electrical assemblies.
  • High school diploma or equivalent AND Four (4) years of experience with repairs and maintenance of electronic, mechanical, or electrical assemblies.
  • Internal employees must meet all mandatory competencies in current position in order to qualify for promotion within IT.
  • Must be able to work under conditions of stress caused by the nature of the mission, which usually involves the life and well-being of the patients and the necessity to meet deadlines which are out of his/her control. Technical, academic and mental demands are high. The work performed is of precise nature requiring long periods of concentration.
  • Demonstrate competency in five of the following: Patient Monitoring, Defibrillators, EKG/Stress Tests, Infusion/PCA/Syringe Pumps, Electrosurgical Units, Fetal Monitors, Bladder Scanners, Surgical Video Systems, Surgical Microscopes, Infant Warmers, Blood Warmers, Warming Blankets, or Scope Washers.
  • Ability to handle and maintain confidential information.
  • Ability to work well under high stress conditions.
  • Ability to work independently or cooperatively as a team member.
  • Ability to adapt to various workloads and assignments.
  • Ability to work with multi-disciplinary groups.
  • Ability to sit and or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must have reading and comprehension ability.
  • Must be able to type.
  • Possess good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and rapidly changing environment. Must be flexible.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) Administered by the International Certification Commission for Clinical Engineering and Biomedical Technology (ICC)

Responsibilities

  • Maintains assigned equipment to minimize breakdowns and comply with accepted standards.
  • Recommends changes to equipment management program that will improve equipment usage and/or reduce costs, without detracting from patient care.
  • Gains increased skills and knowledge through a combination of on‑the-job training and formalized training.
  • Project Coordination: Reviews, identifies and documents any issues, barriers, or risks and brings them to management’s attention.
  • Team Building: Participates in training and professional development sessions.
  • This position may require travel to other West Virginia United Health System (WVUHS) facilities or affiliated sites to assist with implementations, training, and/or support.
  • Adheres to the established policies of WVUHS as well as the policies of the entity or entities where the Biomed team member is assigned to work and/or employed.
  • Accepts on-call responsibilities and responds with action, either by phone call or on-site as defined by Department Policy.
