About The Position

Wilkes University invites applicants for an open Biology 1 & 2 high school teaching position in the Upward Bound Program for the summer session. Upward Bound is a federally funded Trio Program, which provides support to participants in their preparation for college and ultimately, in their higher education pursuits. The successful candidate is responsible for implementing the academic component of the program by introducing or reviewing fundamental biology concepts, including cellular biology, genetics, evolution, and ecology in Biology I. Biology II will build on these foundations, exploring human biology, anatomy and physiology, and some principles of biotechnology. Emphasis will be placed on laboratory investigations, problem-solving, and real-world applications of biology in medicine, environmental science, and biotechnology. A Bachelor's degree in Education, Science, and/or a related field is required. Experience working with high school students or in a college-preparatory program is preferred. Please note that this is a part-time, temporary position with a competitive hourly wage. Summer program dates run from June 22nd through July 31st and classes are held throughout the week, Monday - Thursday (8:00 A.M. – 12:00P.M.). Teachers may or may not, work the whole 4 hours, depending on the class size and student need; minimum of two (2), 50 minute class periods, Monday - Thursday.
