Biology Lab Assistant
About The Position
Prepare labs assist professor monitor and assist sutdents during labs. Develop new laboratory activities. Maintain laboratories in a professional manner and keep necessary supplies on hand. Sort collections of biological materials; enter data into computer files; prepare labels for specimens; collect specimens as necessary; create and maintain records as necessary; perform other duties as assigned. Prepare and sterilize media, including agar and broth. Operate autoclaves and other laboratory sterilization equipment safely. Maintain greenhouse facilities, including watering, propagation, and plant care. Feed and maintain laboratory animals, including cleaning tanks or enclosures. Wash and sterilize glassware, dishes, and other laboratory tools. Clean, maintain, and troubleshoot microscopes and other laboratory equipment. Assist with setup and teardown of laboratory experiments. Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Requirements
- Must possess knowledge of biology and lab operations
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and work independently
- Basic laboratory skills and familiarity with standard lab equipment preferred
- Interest in plant or animal care, laboratory research, or teaching support
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
