About The Position

Biology Dept. Lab Assistants work in Biology labs assisting the students with weekly lab activities. This is a very hands-on position in that lab assistants directly interact with students enrolled in the course to help navigate the use of scientific equipment (ex: microscopes), specimens used in the labs as well as teach lab techniques and answer student questions for increased understanding of the lab principles being explored in each lab. Campus Location : Des Plaines Length of Employment : 1 semester with opportunity for renewal Can a student do homework in this position? Never Hours Available: 5-10 hrs/week

Requirements

• Candidates must have earned a grade of "B" or higher on the course for which they are lab assisting.
• Candidates must provide one faculty reference who can speak to their qualifications for this position.
• Must demonstrate reliability and responsibility.
• Strong communication skills necessary
• Eligible to Work in the United States.
• Must be enrolled in at least six credit hours during fall and spring semesters.

Responsibilities

• Answer student questions about the lab activity ( CM, TW, EI)
• Perform demonstrations on proper use of lab equipment (LD, TW, EI)
• Meet and Work with a faculty mentor on a weekly basis (CM, TW, EI)
• Supervise open lab opportunities (LD, TW, EI)
• Hold weekly office hours for students in their class (PF, LF, CM, TC, EI)
• Develop study techniques for students with varied learning styles (CT, TW, EI)
